I am really exited to talk about healthy post workout snacks today.
So I have been partnering up with nuts.com to present you with the lovely “Homemade Granola Bars”- a High-protein Snack that can be a natural and effective way to refuel after a workout which makes it the perfect option for boosting your summer shape up plan!
Here is the recipe:
So for this high protein Post-Workout Breakfast I used:
- 2 Cups Favorite Breakfast Muesli
- 1 handful of each “Pecan Nuts” and “Walnuts”
- 1 Cup Quinoa Pops
- 2 TS of Goji Berries or Cranberries
- Agave Syrup
- 2-4 TS Coconut Oil
- 1-2 Bananas
Add the muesli, the nuts and berries into a pan and put it onto a medium heat. Add the coconut oil and let it simmer for a while while sturring constantly. Now add the quinoa pops and reduce the heat to a minimum. Now add the agave syrup until its an almost doughy consistency and the mass sticks together. Take the pan off the heat. Scrunch the banana and add to the mixture. Fill it into a form and let it cool over night in the fridge.
The next day cut into right size pieces to your taste 🙂 and enjoy this little nutty snack!!!
But why are proteins so important when working out anyway?
After you finish your workout, your body enters recovery mode. This means that your tissues begin to rebuild and replenish themselves. Your body has two major nutritional needs during recovery: carbohydrates and proteins. In the 20 to 60 minutes following your workout, carbohydrates provide much-needed energy to muscle fibers. Proteins, on the other hand, are essential building blocks to repair muscle tissue that is torn during a workout. This tissue rebuilding process goes on for several hours following a workout, but your body benefits most if you consume protein within 30 minutes of ending your exercise routine (American Heart Association, 2015).
