Why Hashtags are important on Instagram
Hashtags are super important on Instagram because they can help you increase the reach of your posts. By creating a hashtag strategy you ensure that you are reaching small as well as bigger niches on Instagram which could both help you go viral on Instagram.
If you want to know the exact system how Hashtags can help you appear on the Instagram explore page and go viral please have a look at this post here:
Tailwind Instagram Hashtag Tool – Finder
My favorite Instagram Hashtag Tool is Tailwind. Tailwind is an official Instagram Partner so you are allowed to use their services to grow on Instagram.
Now the Tailwind Instagram Hashtag Tool helps you with the following problems:
- Identify viral Hashtags
- Determine Hashtags Reach
- Determine Hashtag Competitiveness
- Create Hashtag Lists
- Find new relevant Hashtags for your Niche
- Helps you to post the exact amount of Hashtags
Here is a video I created which shows you exactly how to use the Tailwind Instagram Hashtag Tool.
Also, you can start a Free Tailwind Trial here or you can take the free Instagram Tailwind Challenge here.
Hashtag Reach – Color Code
As you have seen in the video one of the best features of the Instagram Hashtag Tool is that Tailwind color codes the different Hashtags according to reach.
The Hashtag Finder will pop up automatically as you draft your Instagram posts in Tailwind. Just add a single hashtag to the description that you think might be a good fit, and Tailwind will recommend other relevant and related hashtags.
The suggested hashtags are color-coded to help you differentiate the “best” hashtags from “good,” “niche,” or highly “competitive” ones. Try using a mix of different colors to balance relevance and reach. Also make sure to be wary of using too many “competitive” hashtags, as they tend to be very broad and often overused.
Tailwind Tutorials
If you log into Tailwind and press the (?) sign you are able to use Tailwind’s own tutorials for specific questions which may come up. Here are a few helpful ones with regards to the Tailwind Hashtag Tool:
Step by Step Finding Hashtags
- Go to your Drafts Page (located in the pop-out menu in the left-hand navigation).
- On a new draft post that doesn’t have any hashtags, there will be a few of your Recently Used Hashtags (colored gray) to choose from. The interesting orange-colored hashtag, “#socialmedia”, in the below image is a Competitive hashtag! This means there are a lot of other uses of it, but being competitive is not necessarily a bad thing, either.
- To find Suggested Hashtags, start by typing a few words in your caption. As you type your caption, you will receive new hashtag suggestions based on the caption text. You can also start typing a hashtag and suggestions will appear as an option in the text box. Choose among them based on their color-coded rating and the number of posts they appear in: In this Draft, we’ve added “#socialmediatips.”
- You can see that Tailwind Hashtag Finder now suggests a bunch of other related hashtags, color-coded to help us choose the best ones. Lighter green colored hashtags are Good; they have a moderate amount of usage and may be well targeted to your audience. The dark green hashtags (e.g. ” #marketingstrategy” in this example) are considered the Best to use, as they have significant volume of usage and may also be well-targeted to your audience. We recommend a blend of hashtags that are popular, but not too popular, along with some niche and a few highly competitive ones too.
- To add any suggested hashtag to your post’s description, just click on it! When you do, Tailwind will refresh the suggestions based on your selection. It’s that easy!

Hashtag Lists
- Go to your Drafts Page (located in the pop-out menu in the left-hand navigation).
- Click the “Hashtag” button to open the Hashtag List creator and the “+” button to add a new Hashtag list. The limit of hashtags per post is 30 according to Instagram. Helpful Tips: Make lists of top hashtags for each type of content you post (e.g. fashion, food, exercise). Or try saving pre-save formatting, contest rules, or stock text for campaigns!
- Make sure to click the “Save Hashtag List” button on the list to keep it!
- Add a list of Hashtags to an Instagram post in one quick click of the Hashtag Button

Auto Post your Hashtags in your first comment on Instagram:
- Upload your image or video, craft your caption, and then type the # symbol to get predictive hashtag suggestions.
- Click on your desired suggested hashtags or add your frequently-used hashtags from your saved Hashtags list. Once you add hashtags to your Instagram caption in Tailwind, you’ll see a brand new checkbox which allows you to move your hashtags from the end of your caption to the first comment on the post!
- Check the Post hashtags in first comment box to move the hashtags from your caption to your 1st comment.
